An American, an Englishman, and Irishman, and a German all walk into a bar. What do they all have in common? Well, they probably all have moles! The average person will develop 10-40 moles during their life, so it’s important to know a bit about them. They can come in all different colors, from flesh colored to brown, and even to black. They can also have different shapes and sizes, ranging from circular and symmetrical to oddly misshapen, and from the size of a pen mark to larger than a pencil eraser. As you might have guessed, different moles can mean different things. The moles that are flesh colored, small, and symmetrical are generally nothing to worry about. However, if any of your moles are black, large, misshapen, or somehow growing or changing, this is a reason to get your moles examined by a dermatologist. This is because moles like this can be signs of a form of skin cancer called melanoma. It’s common knowledge that cancer is best treated when treated early, so it will often be better safe than sorry to get any suspicious moles examined by a dermatologist, who can tell whether the moles are in fact cancerous and get you the peace of mind you may be looking for.
Will I get Hair Growth after mole removal?
One anxiety that people have about mole removal comes up when they have moles on areas that grow hair that’s important for their grooming. These areas can include the scalp (where your head hair grows), the eyebrow, and the lip (which is where mustaches will grow for some men). We’re happy to report that in some cases, hair growth comes back after mole removal like it never happened! In these cases, patients will be very satisfied, since their anxieties about hair loss would have been totally answered. We can’t totally guarantee this result, but not to worry! Our patients are consistently satisfied with the hair growth they have on their treatment areas after receiving treatment.
The classic area for hair growth is the scalp. Most everyone cares about the way their hair looks, and having a mole removed on the scalp causes fears about a permanent big hole in their hair. Not to worry, though! Like we said above, a lot of patients get their hair growth all the way back, but not always. Even when hair growth doesn’t come back, though, it’s not a big deal on the scalp. There are so many hair follicles around the treatment area that a “spot” without hair on the scalp won’t be noticeable. In this case, then, even if there’s hair loss, you won’t lose your look.
Let’s think about the eyebrows and mustache area now. Obviously, there aren’t as many hair follicles here as there are on the top of the head. This means that hair loss could be noticeable, and yet, still not to worry! Our clinics have plenty of experience treating cases like this in the past, and we know to be careful with moles in places like this. We take care to only remove the parts on the skin that are affected by the moles, and do our best to not remove excess skin that we don’t have to. This means that any hair loss is minimized, and our patients are consistently satisfied with their hair loss after treatment!
